Visits-Discoveries on the theme of explorers in connection with the 150 years of around the world in 80 days. Take part in the guided tour “Pierre Malherbe, the tireless explorer”!

1873 – 2023: this year we celebrate 150 years since the publication of one of Jules Verne's major works, “Around the World in 80 Days.”
On this occasion, the City invites you to discover the famous Vitrean merchants and explorers who participated in the city's influence and openness to the world.

The fabulous adventure of Pierre Malherbe, the first traveler from the kingdom of France to have visited the Middle Empire.
Coming from a family of overseas merchants, Pierre Malherbe is certainly one of the most audacious Breton travelers and is considered the first man to have circumnavigated the globe by land.
He embarked in Saint-Malo in 1582 bound for Spain to learn the family trade from one of his uncles; and will only return to France after a journey of seventeen years!
