Walking

Located in a region of woods and ponds, the town of Marpiré extends over 10km². In the town, we can note the presence of many fields planted with Miscanthus: it is an energy crop, a perennial grass that grows to 3m high and is harvested in winter (January/February) when the leaves are dry. This plant resembles reeds with feathery spikes at the top of the stems.
This circuit allows you to cross two forest massifs: the Bois de Briêrue (private) and the forest of Corbière (public). This vast massif of 630 ha offers very diverse natural environments which are enhanced and preserved by the department of sensitive natural areas of the department of Ille-et-Vilaine, owner since 2002. There are 64 species of birds including 50 protected, 8 species of amphibians and 32 species of mammals. Landes, wetlands, edges, woods and undergrowth, old orchards are home to a very rich flora.

Step 1

In the XNUMXth century, the Vitreous architect Androuing built the church on slightly elevated ground, as in the places of pilgrimage, then in full swing (La Salette, Lourdes). The church furniture is also neo-Gothic: altars and altarpieces, statuary, choir stalls and woodwork, communion railing, confessionals and baptismal font. The pulpit was made by the Augerie de Vitré workshops.

Step 2

In the Corbière forest, you are at the heart of the Chevré forest massif. In the Middle Ages, this massif extended to the forests of Rennes, Liffré and Saint-Aubin du Comier formed an important forest complex. Recent archaeological excavations have been carried out, demonstrating that humans already occupied this site in the Neolithic period (between the 4th and 2nd millennia BC). Since that date the forest has always been exploited, especially for its wood. Old paths lined with hedges confirm the ancient presence of men who came to find something to keep warm, build or make tools or wine barrels.
