2 rue de Strasbourg, 35500 Vitré

The Jacques Duhamel Cultural Center in Vitré offers you on February 3 at 20:30 pm the show "Artemisia Gentileschi" by the Vertigo group.

In 1612 in Italy, the famous painter Agostino Tassi was accused of the rape of the young artist Artemisia Gentileschi, to whom he taught perspective. Four centuries later, this play depicts the hectic process that agitated Renaissance Rome for nine months. It summons the powerful and visceral work of Artemisia Gentileschi painted in reaction. And it reveals issues that resonate singularly with our news and the aftermath of the #metoo movement.
From the surviving trial transcripts and set writing, the Vertigo group takes on this extraordinary affair with fierce humor. The piece combines reconstruction, myth and contemporary outlook, to tell the story of a woman who defended herself and took her revenge through her art, before becoming one of the greatest painters of her time.
