The museum's Overseas Merchants room is enriched by the presentation of two recently restored works, namely the Merchants' Crucifixion and also a XNUMXth century Portrait of Julien Geffrard.

A remarkable work by an artist from the north of France from the end of the XNUMXth century, the painting of the Crucifixion is
acquired by the Confrérie des Marchands d'outre-mer to adorn their chapel in the Notre-Dame church. But
the painting was the subject of an incredible theft on April 17, 1969 and only resurfaced 50 years later in
during an auction in Lille.

Returned to the City at the end of 2019, it is now on display at the castle museum following its recent restoration.
