A former non-commissioned officer without money, Georges Duroy arrives in Paris to make his fortune. There he met by chance his former hussar comrade, Charles Forestier, who opened the doors to him of the La Vie Française newspaper, run by the boss Mr. Walter.
Praised to the skies by women, charming and unscrupulous, Georges Duroy blends into a society full of appearances and shenanigans, always seductive in order to better rise above his condition.
