5 kilometers from the city center hides the Rochers-Sévigné castle, country residence of one of the most famous French letter writers, the Marquise de Sévigné (1626-1696).

The Château des Rochers-Sévigné Museum

The museum takes place in the Rochers Sévigné castle, a XNUMXth century Gothic manore , with majestic turrets and a small octagonal chapel covered with an imperial roof.


The Marquise de Sévigné spent many stays there, after the death of her husband Henri de Sévigné.
Current Museum of Rochers Sévigné was created in 1884. It offers a permanent exhibition retracing the life of its illustrious owner, between objects, furniture and portraits.


The course will take you into l'Orangerie, where you will be greeted by an imposing statue of the Marquise (XIXe), in the manor tower as well as in the Chapel that the Marchioness had built in 1671. You will have the feeling of entering theintimacy of the famous writer.

It was within these walls that Madame de Sévigné wrote 297 letters, including 262 addressed to her daughter, the Countess of Grignan.
